Morning Ride
September 22, 2008
Woke up early this morning to get a ride around the lake before class. It was still dark and I nearly crapped myself when I came within a few feet of hitting an oncoming cyclist with the same plan as me. I decided that it was time to turn on my headlamp (I know, I’m an idiot) instead of piloting by the very small amount of ambient light available at 5:30 am.
My lamp is a Petzl E-lite, and I enjoy it very much. It’s supposed to be an emergency headlamp that’ll sit, retaining full charge for ten years, but it’s super bright, and super light. Problem is the battery only lasts about 34 hours. Still, since I use my headlamp very little, I figure it’s not too inconvenient to keep a spare button cell battery in the case.
The ride was pleasant. I also managed to scare a deer and a fox, and finally got an accurate reading of the distance around the lake, 16.58 miles. It began to sprinkle a bit around mile 8 as I hit the state forest, but by mile 13 it was coming down fairly hard. Not a bad ride.
